What’s is a bond package?
Just like a person looking to purchase a home, the City of Columbus uses financing to support its capital improvement program. Columbus borrows money by issuing bonds and uses the proceeds to build and maintain its roadways, acquire heavy equipment, construct police and fire facilities and so on. By asking for your support, the City can save millions of dollars by getting a better rate on its bonds.
Does this change my taxes?
No. A bond package does not mean higher or new property taxes. For over sixty years, the City’s prudent fiscal management has used the current income tax to repay bonds. That means no new or additional property taxes for you and better capital investments for all of us.
What kind of projects will this bond package fund?
These are future funds that will help with physical infrastructure projects. So, projects you can see happening around you! Examples of the types of projects include police and fire facility improvements, improvements to parks and recreation facilities, better refuse collection, street, sidewalk and intersection improvements, resurfacing roads, water and sanitary system improvements, improvements to street lighting, and affordable housing development.
